Strength of Fiber and Iron: Waulking the Wool and Forging the Tool
Sunday, August 23rd, 2:00pm
Local blacksmiths will display a wide variety of hand-forged tools that would have been necessary on the frontier and will answer questions about blacksmithing in the early years of the nation. We’ll also gather for a demonstration of a traditional wool waulking, where the ladies of the village will sing waulking songs and work together to shrink the woolen fabric they’ve spent the summer weaving into cloth. This process will begin at approximately 2:00pm and last until the cloth is sufficiently prepared, then it will be hung for display and drying.
