18th Century Medicine- Disease-Diagnosis-Treatment

Depreciation Lands Museum 4743 S Pioneer Rd, Allison Park, PA, United States

Jonathan Klemens, retired clinical pharmacist and 18th Century Historian (Ravencrest Historical Writing) Surviving the 18th Century was a very perilous challenge. If war or Indian raids did not maim or kill you; you could always succumb to a plethora of lethal or debilitating diseases. Disease was the daily norm. There was no understanding of disease causation, disease contraction, or transmission. Herbs, mineral springs, and apothecary medicine were basic treatments for many conditions to rebalance the four humours and restore health. However, aggressive treatments, when necessary, included bleeding, blistering, and purging. This 60-minute lecture is a comprehensive presentation coveringthe miasma theory of disease, public health, medicine, dentistry, and medical quackery. The evening includes a unique and fascinating display ofperiod apothecary and medical artifacts and devices. ORDER TICKETS HERE
