Join or Renew your membership easily on-line today. Every Sunday you will meet the Villagers of Talley Cavey, circa 1792, going about their daily lives. Take time to chat with us. We love to share what we do! Would you like a Personal, Guided Tour for your group? What will you see when you visit? (Click to view a map of the Village)
When you visit you will see People! Knowledgeable interpreters in accurate 18th century dress recreate everyday life in the late 18th century. The Museum's peaceful wooded grounds (bring a picnic!) transport the visitor into an earlier time every Sunday afternoon during the season. We welcome you at the front of the original Covenanter Church building, built by the members of the Pine Creek Covenanter congregation around 1837. Inside are displays and our extensive Spinning and Weaving demonstration. Learn how we process flax into linen, and sheep wool into yarn. The Armstrongs' log house was built in 1803, and is the earliest surviving log house in Hampton. You will always "the latch string out" and someone cooking at the open hearth, cleaning, spinning and caring for the Herb Garden. Nearby is our Smokehouse and Beehive Bake oven. Children of all ages enjoy attending class in the one-room school. Reading and Arithmetic are the most important subjects! The Blackmith is always working in the shop. Vital to every community, he makes and mends anything made of iron. In the Barn you will find our Conestoga style Kramer wagon, a plank from the Butler Plank Road (did you know that is where the road name derived?) and tools of the farmer. In the replica Mercantile, you will learn about commerce on the frontier; in the Wood Shop, the craft is continued in a pre-power tool age. The Tavern reflects an 18th century style gathering place, which is also available for rental. The Museum Association maintains two lovely colonial cemeteries. The Pine Creek Cemetery is located on North Pioneer Road, at the site of the first Pine Creek
Covenanter Church and the Depreciation Lands Cemetery, which is located right here at the Museum.
Throughout the season, watch for announcements of special Sundry Sunday demonstrations on Facebook and this website! Sign up here to receive our free monthly e-news, Happenings. The Cemetery and peaceful, shady grounds, furnished with picnic tables, are open Sunrise to Sunset every day of the year. Be sure to check our Hours of operation and the Calendar of events. If you like visiting, you may love volunteering to be part of things! Please visit the Volunteers Page to learn more! All of us were once visitors, too! |
