Learn to Spin with a spinning wheel

Saturday, June 4, 2022, 9am - 4pm

--- Class will be held outdoors under the back portico with plenty of space ---

For thousands of years, women spun yarn out of necessity, to create the clothing needed by their families. Today, we spin for the pleasure of creating yarn from all sorts of wonderful fibers! With incredible options for fiber to spin, from farm fresh sheep and alpacca fleeces to fully prepared and gorgeously dyed fiber of all sorts, there is creative fun for anyone with a spinning wheel.

This day-long, hands-on class will prepare you to launch your own exploration into this creative craft. Presented by the talented spinners of the Butler Spinners and Weavers Guild , as part of their Community Outreach program, in conjunction with the Depreciation Lands Museum, you will learn to spin on a modern spinning wheel.

With a spinning wheel for each student to use, as well as an accomplished spinner to personally mentor you on the way, you will learn each step of spinning. You will recieve a good supply of prepared wool fiber to spin, and the yarn you produce will be yours to keep. Along the way, we will demonstrate the preparation required to ready fiber for spinning, as well as how and where to acquire your own supplies. Yes, there are local shops where you can purchase yummy fiber!

We will also talk about the books, videos and magazines which are full of ideas and teaching aides for the new spinner, as well as how to acquire a wheel of your own.

Do you have a wheel you would like to learn to use? Bring it along, and we will teach you on your own wheel. Don't have a wheel? No problem, we have plenty for you to use during the class.

** Pre-paid registration is required for this Class, and class size is limited.**

The fee of $45 covers the use of a wheel, tools and all materials. (Discounts available to BSWG and DLM members)

-- Please bring a pair of socks to wear while spinning and a bag lunch. Complimentary water and soda will be available throughout the day.

The classes are appropriate for adults and teens
